5 | What Defines You? | Caroline De Moraes

In Episode 5 of Vision & Graft I chat to Caroline De Moraes, a sports reporter and presenter based in the UK. Caroline has worked for BT Sport, ITV, Eurosport, Channel 4, Redbull and BBC sport amongst many other broadcasters and production companies.

Caroline begins the episode by explaining how she found herself presenting despite it not being her first choice of career and moves on to discuss the value of diversifying as a freelancer, especially to weather the more difficult moments in your career.

We go on to talk about networking and what it actually is (and what it isn't!). We then discuss the need to focus on our strengths at times of adversity and the advantages of making an effort to be aware of your mental health. This conversation covers Imposter syndrome and the impact that this can have on putting ourselves out there.

Caroline and I then chat about comments about how we look for both men and women, in particular those in front of the camera and the lasting effects this can have.

Finally we consider the impact freelance life can have on relationships, living a life with constant travel and pushing ourselves hard at work as well as what all of this can do to our overall mental wellbeing.

To be able to chat to Caroline so openly about her experiences was really eye opening and she is such a great storyteller. I could listen for days!

Vision & Graft aims to inspire action, give hope and normalise the discussion of mental wellbeing within creative sectors as well as more widely throughout society.
